Polyurethane polymer dispersant t BYK163 for solvent-borne automotive and industrial coatings
DESCRIPTION
Anjeka 6161A is a wetting and dispersing agent which is used for solvent-borne automotive and industrial coatings and pigment concentrates, especially suitable for stabilizing carbon blacks and organic pigments, particularly in two-pack PU and baking systems. Anjeka 6161A can significantly reduce the millbase viscosity.
PRODUCT DATA
Composition
Solution of polyurethane with pigment affinic groups.
Typical Properties
The values given in this data sheet describe the typical properties and do not constitute specification limits.
Amine value: | 6-9 mg KOH/g |
Density: | 1.02 g/ml (25℃) |
Viscosity: | 380-420 cps (25℃) |
Non-volatile matter (20min, 150℃): | 40% |
Solvent: | xylene/methoxypropylacetate |
STORAGE AND TRANSPORTATION
Separation and turbidity may occur at temperatures below 0℃. Warm to 20℃ and mix well before use.
ATTENTION
The surface-treatment of some organic pigments may negatively affect the efficiency of the additive. In such cases, tests with the untreated pigment of the same type may be successful. When used in coil coatings, the interaction of this cationic additive with the acid catalyst must be taken into account. Free acids or epoxy-blocked acids are more suitable than amine-blocked acids.
Application
Industrial Coatings
Characters and advantages
Anjeka 6161A serves to disperse pigments effectively while ensuring their stability through the application of steric hindrance. This results in the creation of repulsion forces and steric stabilization, effectively warding off the risk of re-aggregation in the dispersed pigments. Consequently, the use of Anjeka 6161A prevents issues like floating and flooding in multi-pigment systems. Moreover, the additive's deflocculating characteristics contribute to heightened gloss, intensified color strength, improved transparency, and enhanced hiding power. Simultaneously, it works to decrease the viscosity of the millbase, streamlining the processing of the material.
APPLICATION
Industrial coatings especially recommended
Automotive coating especially recommended
Protective coating systems recommended
RECOMMENDED ADDITION LEVEL
The amount of additive (supplied form) is based on the pigment.
Titanium dioxide 5-6%
Inorganic pigments 10-15%
Organic pigments 30-80%
Carbon blacks 70-140%
The above recommended levels can be used for orientation. Optimal levels are determined through a series of laboratory tests.
PROCESSING INSTRUCTIONS
For the best performance, the additive must be added into the millbase before addition of pigments. The resin and solvent components of the millbase are pre-mixed and then the additive is slowly incorporated while stirring continuously. Do not add the pigments until the additive has been fully distributed.
