Dispersion of inorganic pigments and fillers in common coating resin system
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
A wetting and dispersing agent for solvent-borne and solvent-free coatings and printing inks. It effectively stabilizes inorganic pigments, particularly titanium dioxide, and significantly reduces the viscosity of pigment pastes.
PRODUCT DATA
Chemical composition: Copolymer solution containing acidic functional groups.
Typical physical and chemical data:
The values provided in this data sheet are typical and are not intended as product specifications.
Appearance: Colorless to light yellow liquid
Acid value: 50-80 mg KOH/g
Density: 0.90-1.10 g/cm³ (at 23°C)
Viscosity: 5-250 mPa·s (at 25°C)
Active content: 50%
Solvent: Triethylene glycol butyl e ther / Xylene (1:3 by weight)
STORAGE AND TRANSPORT
Stir well before use. Separation or turbidity may occur if stored below 0°C; warm to 30-40°C and stir until homogeneous. The recommended shelf life does not exceed 12 months.
SPECIAL NOTES
Due to the product's high acid value, it may catalyze the cross-linking reaction in baking paint systems. Monitor the paint system for viscosity increase during storage.
APPLICATION GUIDELINES
Industries: Coatings and printing inks.
Properties and Advantages:
This additive deflocculates and stabilizes pigments through steric hindrance. The resulting fine, deflocculated pigment particles prevent flooding and floating in multi-pigment systems, leading to enhanced gloss, color strength, transparency, and hiding power.
It effectively reduces system viscosity, improving flow properties and allowing for higher pigment loading. When used in electrostatic high-speed rotational coating with inorganic pigments, it significantly reduces haze.
APPLICATION SECTORS
Recommended for stabilizing inorganic pigments (especially titanium dioxide) in solvent-borne, solvent-free coatings, and printing inks. Its anionic character makes it ideal for acid-catalyzed systems such as coil coatings.
RECOMMENDED DOSAGE
(on weight of pigment, as supplied)
-
Titanium dioxide: 2% - 4%
-
Other inorganic pigments: 5% - 10%
The above figures are typical starting points. The optimal dosage must be determined through systematic testing.
INCORPORATION AND PROCESSING
For optimal performance, incorporate the additive into the grinding base before adding the pigments.
