Product Description

BYK410 liquid rheological agent Anjeka 4410

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Anjeka 4410 is a liquid rheological modifier designed for use in medium polarity coatings and solvent-free coatings, as well as resin systems that cure at room temperature. This additive enhances the thixotropic properties of the fluid, improving resistance to sagging and settling. It can be added at a later stage during processing.

PRODUCT DETAILS

Composition: Anjeka 4410 is a solution of modified polyurea.

Typical Characteristics

The values provided in this datasheet represent typical properties and are not intended as specification limits.

Density: 1.15 g/ml (25℃)
Viscosity:

50-100 cps (25℃)

Non-volatile matter (20 min., 150 ℃): 50%
Solvents:  N-Methylpyrrolidone

Storage and Handling

It is important to store this product in a dry environment as temperature can affect its performance. If you notice slight cloudiness during storage, don't worry, this will not affect its ability to control flow properties.

Use

Once incorporated into a coating system, this additive creates a three-dimensional network structure. This structure promotes thixotropic flow, preventing particle settling and improving anti-sag properties, while ensuring a smooth finish.

Function

Rheological agents, also known as rheology modifiers or thickeners, are additives used in various formulations to control and adjust the flow and viscosity characteristics of liquids and semi-solids. These agents play a critical role in ensuring that products have the desired consistency, stability, and application properties. Here are the primary functions of rheological agents:

Viscosity Control:

Increase or decrease the viscosity of a formulation to achieve the desired consistency. This is crucial for products like paints, coatings, adhesives, and personal care items, where specific viscosity levels are necessary for proper application and performance.

Stabilization:

Prevent the settling or separation of solid particles within a liquid medium. This is important for maintaining the uniformity and stability of suspensions, emulsions, and dispersions.

Suspension:

Keep insoluble particles suspended within a liquid to ensure even distribution and consistent performance. This is essential in products like pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and food and beverage items.

Thixotropy:

Impart thixotropic properties to a formulation, where the viscosity decreases under shear stress (such as stirring or shaking) and recovers once the stress is removed. This behavior is beneficial for products that need to be easy to apply but should not flow or drip excessively once applied, like certain paints and gels.

Shear-Thinning and Shear-Thickening:

Modify the flow behavior under different shear conditions. Shear-thinning agents cause a decrease in viscosity with increased shear rate, which is useful in applications like printing inks and cosmetics. Shear-thickening agents, on the other hand, increase viscosity with shear rate, which can be useful in specific industrial applications.

Improved Texture and Feel:

Enhance the sensory attributes of personal care products and food items by improving their texture, spreadability, and overall feel. This is particularly important in creams, lotions, sauces, and dressings.

Application and Workability:

Improve the application properties of materials by providing the desired flow and leveling characteristics. This is crucial in construction materials, coatings, and adhesives to ensure ease of use and high-quality finishes.

Consistency and Uniformity:

Ensure that formulations remain consistent and uniform throughout their shelf life, preventing issues like phase separation, sedimentation, or syneresis (liquid separation).

Enhanced Performance:

In many cases, rheological agents can enhance the overall performance of a product by improving its stability, application, and end-use properties.

SUGGESTED USE

For anti-settling it is recommended to add 0.2-1% of the additive (as supplied) based on the total formulation. For anti-sag the level should be increased to 0.5-2% depending on the polarity and solids content of the formulation.
