Coating & Printing Ink Industry
Key Properties & Core Advantages
This additive achieves pigment deflocculation and stable dispersion via steric hindrance effects. Owing to the ultrafine particle size of the deflocculated pigments, multi-color systems are effectively prevented from color floating and blooming issues. It further enhances the gloss, color strength, transparency and hiding power of coatings comprehensively. Meanwhile, the additive reduces the system viscosity, which not only optimizes the flow performance but also enables a higher pigment loading in formulations. Especially for the electrostatic high-speed bell cup application of inorganic pigments, it can significantly reduce the haze phenomenon and improve the film-forming quality.
This additive is recommended for the stable dispersion of inorganic pigments—especially titanium dioxide—in solvent-borne, solvent-free coatings and printing inks alike. Endowed with anionic properties, it is ideally suited for acid-catalyzed coating systems (e.g., coil coatings).
The amount of additive (in purchased form) is based on the pigment:
| Titanium dioxide | 2%-4% |
|---|---|
| Inorganic pigments | 5%-10 |
| Organic pigments | 10%-80 |
The above data are empirical and the optimum amount should be determined through a series of tests.
For optimum performance, add the additives to the abrasive before adding the pigments.
